A Musical Week

Last Monday, June 9, started another busy week for us, but with several changes of pace.  It was a hot week, with temperatures in the upper 80's, which was great!  Everyone loved the rhubarb pie on Monday at school, and thanks to Crisco in the crust from the U.S., it tasted pretty legit.

Tuesday, Tim took the train to Ružomberok after school to hear one of his students play violin in a concert there.  I, meanwhile, went to our church for an organ recital where we knew several students who performed.  Then I went to church choir, where a substitute director is helping to rehearse now for the choir festival while we are gone to Croatia.

On Wednesday after school, we both attended a music recital featuring pianists, violinists, classical guitarists, and some accordion players.  They were all graduating from a level at the music academy here.  This is Terezka playing her recital piece.

Terezka with her proud parents, Ignác and Saška after the recital.  Terezka is a student at our school, and the music academy is an after-school activity opportunity in town.

This is just a random picture from the park we walk through very often, after the first spring mowing and raking!  There were piles like this in the yard by our flat earlier too, then someone comes along and carts off all the piles of 'hay' from the lawns.  It's amazing how long they let the grass get before mowing it the first time!

On Thursday while I was teaching at the primary school, my office partner, Ad'ka (who  teaches part time) stopped by with her little daughter, Nina, so Tim took a picture of them for me!   Ad'ka is such a joy to share office space with.

Tim wanted a picture of this class, since it was the last day for one of the students.  So here is half of the II.A5 class!!

These are some of the primary school kids who have been attending my kružok, or after school English conversation class.  For our last meeting, we went on a nature walk, identifying anything we observed around us, in English of course!!  Then we ended up in the town center where I treated them all to zmrzlina --- delicious Slovak ice cream cones!

We have no idea what was going on here, but a huge crowd of bicyclists of all ages rode down our street wearing matching purple T-shirts on Friday evening.  When I rode to get groceries while Tim was playing basketball later, they were all congregating on the town square eating food with loud music playing.  Sometimes random things happen around here that we never do figure out!!  LOL!!
