Tuesday and Wednesday have been beautiful days here in Liptovsky Mikuláš. We've enjoyed the sunshine and warm temperatures - mid 70's or so. The nights always cool off nicely for sleeping though. It's supposed to be nice the rest of the week too. We're grateful each autumn day to see the mountains surrounding us!
Yesterday after school, we went on a run again, on our "regular" route up to Trstene and back. We cut a couple minutes off our time, so I guess the slow one (me) is getting in a little better shape. I know I've said it before, but the run is always amazing because of the gorgeous scenery and peaceful countryside setting. We still can hardly believe we're actually here, running in mountain foothills in Europe, looking down at a 12th century church steeple in the middle of town!
At 6:00, Eva came over for her first English lesson. She has been studying several years with Carol, so she is really doing well already. Eva brought us a bottle of fresh apple juice produced from their garden - delicious!! She'll come twice a week for lessons. Tim jokes that my two hours a week with Eva will pay for our one lesson a week learning Slovak with Maria! Tim may also begin teaching the son of another of Carol's friends, a 15-year-old boy who goes to a hockey school and wants to learn more English than is available there. We don't want to over-commit on our after-school and evening times, but a few students will be fun!
We went out again after school today searching for a used bicycle for Tim. The ladies' bike left here by a previous American lector will be fine for me, but still no luck on finding something reasonably priced for Tim yet. Biking will be a great option for making quick trips around town, and also for touring the area a little farther out than we can walk easily. Hopefully we'll find something soon enough to enjoy while the weather is still nice!
Later this week we'll be having more photo opportunities. :-) Friday is the day for the big anniversary celebration for the school. There are no classes in the morning, then everyone meets at the church for the service in the afternoon. After that will be an open house reception, so we're looking forward to all the festivities! The students are decorating the classrooms, there are big bulletin board displays, and rehearsals are underway for the music. (Tim and I love to hear the student praise band practicing "How Great Is our God" in the chapel every day now!! It makes our hearts glad!)
