Our Monday and Tuesday have been very full days at school. We are either teaching classes or working on curriculum with Carol all day long, except for our lunch breaks, which we really appreciate. We get to walk about 3 blocks to the elementary school canteen, enjoying the beautiful sunshine and scenery, and the food is bountiful! We have about 40 minutes total, so the time is relaxed and pleasant. I have to say, we've been pretty tired out with all the "brain work" on curriculum, and trying to learn names for 10 different classes of Slovak students, not to mention our colleagues! Our students are really nice, eager to learn, and have good English skills already.
We found out today that we'll be taking a train to Zilina at 7:10 a.m. tomorrow, to finally apply for our work visas. All of our paperwork has arrived.....signed, sealed and delivered!! The deputy headmistress will again accompany us, to help with the whole process. We are so lucky to have her assistance, and we thoroughly enjoy her company as well! So we had to make sub plans for the first time!! HA! Then of course school has been cancelled completely for Thursday, due to the national one-day teachers' strike. Teachers here are severely underpaid (about $400 a month), so they are drawing attention to the need for more money in the entire education budget as well as their salaries.
So we'll be off on another adventure tomorrow, checking out the train system here in Slovakia. Stay tuned. :-)
